Walleye Fishing Trips

Detroit River and Lake Erie Walleye Trips

April is the prime time for walleye spawning in Lake Erie and the Detroit River. During this period, a substantial number of Lake Erie Walleyes migrate to the Western Basin, with many of them making their way up the Detroit River. Some of these walleyes choose to stay in the lake, utilizing the reefs for their spawning activities. This presents a fantastic opportunity for anglers to reel in good numbers of walleye, as well as potentially land that trophy-sized catch they've been dreaming of.
When targeting walleye in the Detroit River, we employ vertical jigging techniques using 1oz jigs, which are effectively tipped with minnows and soft plastics. On Lake Erie, we opt for hair jigs and blade baits, utilizing a snap jigging technique with remarkable success. By employing these strategies and techniques, we enhance our chances of a successful and rewarding walleye fishing experience. So gear up and get ready to embark on an exciting walleye fishing adventure!
During May and throughout the summer, Lake Erie's Walleye reach the post-spawn stage. After enduring a long and arduous spawning process, these Walleye become incredibly aggressive and voraciously hungry. The most effective method of fishing during this time is trolling with crank baits and spoons. As June rolls around, Lake Erie starts to showcase a delightful consistency with pleasant and stable weather patterns. This is an ideal time to relish in the joy of capturing Walleye, as the water temperature rises, stirring the fish into heightened activity and granting fishermen the opportunity to reel in substantial hauls. However, it is July that steals the spotlight as the ultimate month for landing magnificent Lake Erie Walleye. With stable weather and the Walleye schooling up in their predictable patterns and migrations, July boasts the highest catch rate of all the months, as confirmed by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources. Even the first couple of weeks in August still offer exceptional opportunities for catching these prized Walleye. However, as the Walleye fishing begins to decelerate, our focus gradually shifts to the beloved Yellow Perch.
